The register of deeds is responsible for recording all documents pertaining to real property in Jackson County. These recordings become the permanent records of the history of ownership of all real estate in the county.

Recordings include deeds, mortgages, discharges, assignments, death certificates, court orders, tax liens and releases, leases, affidavits, land contract and other miscellaneous documents.

The office also is responsible for collecting state and county transfer tax, handles most of the redemption for the foreclosures in Jackson County and records plats, condominiums, corners and surveys.
