The Probate Court is responsible for overseeing cases involving individual’s personal life.

Among these cases are:

  • Probate of estates (small estates, informal, formal and supervised)
  • Safekeeping of wills
  • Registration of trusts
  • Supervision of inter vivos trusts
  • Appointment of a guardian for legally incapacitated individuals
  • Appointment of a conservator for a legally incapacitated individual
  • Appointment of a guardian for a minor
  • Appointment of a conservator for a minor
  • Appointment of a guardian for a developmentally disabled individual
  • Mental commitments
  • Name changes for minors and adults
  • Appeals in drain proceedings.

The Probate Court provides blank forms or packets of forms upon request and offers general information, but can not give legal advice.

All probate files are public and may be viewed at the court office, located on the first floor of the Jackson County Courthouse, 312 S. Jackson, Jackson.
