Hon. James M. Justin
12th District Court Judge
After
service as an assistant Jackson County prosecutor
for five years, James M. Justin became a district court judge
in 1976. He since has been re-elected to four six-year terms,
the current one of which expires Jan. 1, 2007.
Following receipt of a bachelor of arts degree from
the
College of Wooster in 1966, and a law degree from the University
of Michigan in 1969, he was a special agent for the U.S. Department
of Agriculture. In 1971, he became an assistant county prosecutor.
In that office, Justin served as chief of the offices
support and paternity division from 1972 to 1973, as chief
of its appeals division from 1973 to 1975, and as chief assistant
from 1975 until his election to the bench in 1976.
Judge Justin in a member of the Michigan District
Judges Assn., the State Bar of Michigan, for which he is a
past chairman of its criminal law section; and of the Jackson
Bar Assn.
Active in a number of community organizations, he is a past
president of the Jackson Northwest Kiwanis Club, a 15-gallon
blood donor to the American Red Cross, a past session member
of First Presbyterian Church, a past board member of the Irish
Hills Girl Scout Council and a past troop leader, a past member
of the Legal Aid board, a past member of the Jackson Human
Relations Comm. and Aware board, past treasurer of the Jackson
NAACP executive board and a board member of New City Resources,
Inc.
