Hon. John G. McBain
4th Judicial Circuit Court
He was elected to the bench in the November 2002 election
after serving five years as the county's prosecuting attorney
and assigned to the court's Family Division and later took Judge Nelson's place overseeing mainly criminal cases.
Judge McBain, a graduate of Michigan State University with
a bachelor of arts degree in 1982 and a juris doctor degree
from Cooley Law School in 1987, began his career as an assistant
state attorney in Florida. He held that position from 1987
until coming to Jackson as chief assistant prosecutor in 1992.
Three years later he left that office to go into private practice,
then was elected prosecutor in 1996, taking office in 1997.
Awards and professional recognition include Professional
Excellence Award from the Michigan State Police in 1996, Board
Member of the Year for the Council for Prevention of Child
Abuse and Neglect in 2000 and Prosecutor of the Year in 2001.
In addition to being a Council for the Prevention of Child
Abuse and Neglect's board of directors, Judge McBain is district
chairman of Boy Scouts of America and Rotary Club of Jackson.
His professional memberships include Michigan Bar Assn., Prosecuting
Attorneys Assn. of Michigan and National College of District
Attorneys.
