4th Judicial Circuit Court
The Circuit Court is the trial
court of general jurisdiction for Jackson County with jurisdiction
over serious crimes and over civil matters with amounts in
controversy of more than $25,000.
The court also hears appeals from District Court, Probate
Court and administrative agencies. Matters of divorce, child
support, paternity, domestic violence, neglect/abuse, delinquency,
adoptions and minor limited guardianship are heard by the
courts Family Division.
Through the chief judge, the Circuit Court is responsible
for the operation of the Friend of the Court office, the Youth
Center, and the County Law Library.
Circuit Court judges are elected for six-year terms.
